Beautiful walks close to Bowhayes Farm

Bowhayes Farm is located in Venn Ottery, a beautiful Devon village situated on the River Otter. The village is surrounded by stunning countryside, perfect for walking and exploring. There are several picturesque walks to take in the area, including along the river, through the woods and up to the top of nearby hills. Venn Ottery is a perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy some time in nature; here are just some of our favourite walks.


National Trust - Sidmouth Countryside


National Trust's Sidmouth countryside is a conservation area situated on the Jurassic Coast of Devon and is home to a variety of wildlife. Take time to explore the walking trails, stop at one of the many viewpoints along the way, and enjoy the beautiful countryside and stunning coastline views.

 

RSPB Venn Ottery Common

The RSPB Venn Ottery Common nature reserve comprises a series of wetlands, heathland and woodlands. It is home to various wildlife, including otters, water voles, kingfishers, dragonflies, and damselflies. Visitors can also enjoy walking and hiking through the reserve.

 

The Byes

The Byes is a nature reserve made up of fields and meadows surrounding the River Sid. The reserve is a haven for wildlife and a great place to enjoy the outdoors in a tranquil setting. Why not stop for a picnic, take a walk, relax and take in the scenery.

 

RSPB Aylesbeare Common

RSPB Aylesbeare Common is one of the most extensive remaining heathlands in Devon and is home to many important wildlife species. The rare heathland and wetland habitats support various plant and animal life. It is a great place to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. There are also a number of walking trails so that you can explore the reserve at your own pace.

 

Fire Beacon Hill

Fire Beacon Hill is a local nature reserve in East Devon situated within the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and is part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. Several walking trails lead up to the top of the hill, where there are stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

 

Wildwood Escot

Wildwood Escot is a unique family-friendly destination in the heart of Devon with over 80 acres of beautiful countryside to explore, including a whole host of animal encounters and exciting activities on offer; there's something for everyone to enjoy.

 

Ludwell Valley Park

Ludwell Valley Park is a large country park in Devon and is situated on the River Yeo. The park covers an area of approximately 1,000 acres and is home to a variety of wildlife, including deer, badgers, otters and waterfowl. Ludwell Valley Park is a popular destination for walkers, cyclists and horse riders, and there are a number of way-marked trails through the park.

 

East Hill Strips

This hillside is not only a great place to view the East Devon countryside but also a place with a rich history. East Hill Strips has been home to several different cultures over the years, and there are several interesting archaeological sites to explore.
