Applications

The Willows will reach 20 to 24 feet in height after 3 to 4  growing seasons and then maintain this height whilst throwing up new shoots from the base to keep a thick "bottom". They will not grow any higher than 28 - 30 feet and may be kept shorter by pruning.

They make excellent windbreaks, screens, hedges (both woven & unwoven), coppice fuel, logs, game cover and encourage wildlife.

They are often used to stabilise river banks and improve landscapes.

They support a wide range of insect species and so are attractive to birds and other wildlife.

The six pictures below will give you an idea of the growth from 18 months to four years, and show how they regenerate after harvest.

Four rows of willows planted at 3ft x 3ft will provide an annual log supply and complete privacy.
